Adam Matthews rescues point for Celtic

Adam Matthews spared Celtic's blushes as he helped his side to a share of the spoils at home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.

Celtic had made the brighter start in the opening 10 minutes, but it was Thistle who edged in front when Aaron Doran curled a right-footed shot past keeper Fraser Forster.

The hosts tried to respond quickly with Charlie Mulgrew firing a free kick over the bar but their luck worsened with midfielder Berem Kayal being forced off midway through the first 45 minutes, adding to the Hoops' increasing list of casualties.

Caley doubled their lead with 10 minutes left of the opening period as Richie Foran netted from close range.

To the relief of the home support, Mulgrew pulled a goal back before half time to give Neil Lennon's men hope of a comeback.

Celtic laid siege to the visitors' goal through much of the second half but were unable to make the vital breakthrough as Thistle continued to repel the onslaught.

Inverness had a penalty shout turned down when Foran was seemingly bundled over by defender Virgil van Dijk.

Adam Matthews finally made the breakthrough on 82 minutes when he collected the ball on the edge of the area and rifled a low drive past Dean Brill.

Celtic were forced to settle for a point in the end, while Thistle see their 100% start to season ended.
