Jackie McNamara: Dundee United Scottish League Cup win would be "massive upset"

McNamara: Dundee United "massive" underdogs

Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara has said that victory over Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final would be a "massive upset".

United lost last season's Scottish Cup final to St Johnstone, and McNamara is looking to bring the League Cup to Tannadice after disappointment last May.

"I think it's a different thing altogether facing Celtic," McNamara told STV. "No disrespect to St Johnstone but I think ourselves and St Johnstone are very close in terms of resources.

"For me this would be a bigger upset because the gulf, in terms of resources, players that they have and players that they've taken in the January window, it would be a massive upset for us.

"The pleasing thing is our players have worked so hard to get here again in such a short space of time, it would be good for them to lift the trophy despite what happened last summer."

Dundee United are without top scorer Nadir Ciftci, as he has picked up two yellow cards in the competition this season. Celtic are without former United players Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong, who are cup-tied.
