Late Rudy Gestede header gives Cardiff City draw

Rudy Gestede headed in a 93rd-minute equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw for Cardiff City against Leicester City this evening.

Chris Wood forced an early save from David Marshall in the Cardiff goal, while a Lloyd Dyer effort was blocked by Matthew Connolly.

Peter Whittingham had the best of the chances for the home side, firing a pair of free kicks towards the Foxes' goal, but Kasper Schmeichel stopped both strikes.

Craig Bellamy came on in place of Craig Noone at the start of the second half as the hosts looked to switch to a more attacking system.

However, it was Leicester who had the first opportunity of the second half, Dyer picking out David Nugent inside the area, but his effort went wide.

A strong spell from Cardiff saw Tommy Smith, Whittingham and Bellamy all pressuring the visitors' defence.

Michael Keane had a chance to break the deadlock in the 70th minute but his header his the post. He got another opportunity less than a minute later, and this time he nodded the ball past Marshall.

It looked like Keane's goal would be enough to give Leicester all three points as the game headed deep into injury time, but Andrew Taylor picked out Gestede in the area in the 93rd minute, who headed the ball home to equalise for the league leaders.

The result increases Cardiff's lead at the top of the Championship table to four points with a game in hand over second-places Hull City, while Leicester remain inside the playoff places.
