Preview: Cadiz vs. Osasuna - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's La Liga clash between Cadiz and Osasuna, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Osasuna will be bidding to keep their top-six hopes alive when they travel to relegation-threatened Cadiz in Spain's top flight on Tuesday evening.

The away side will enter the contest off the back of a 3-2 success over Real Betis, while Cadiz drew 0-0 with fellow strugglers Espanyol in their last La Liga contest.

Match preview

Cadiz have now only won one of their last seven league matches, with Friday's goalless draw against Espanyol leaving them in 15th position in the table, just four points clear of the relegation zone.

The Yellow Submarine now have back-to-back home games against Osasuna and Valencia before a very difficult trip to Atletico Madrid, but their form in front of their own supporters has been poor this term, only collecting 18 points from 15 matches, which is the third-worst record in the division.

Sergio Gonzalez's side are one of a number of teams involved in a relegation battle at this stage of the campaign, but a victory here has the potential to open up some serious ground on the bottom three.

Cadiz are in their third straight season at this level of football, which is their best run since the early 1990s, so it is a strong period in the club's history after spending a number of years in the second and third tiers.

El Submarino Amarillo have struggled in their previous 29 La Liga meetings with Osasuna, though, only recording four wins, suffering 14 defeats in the process, including the last seven top-flight matches between the two sides.

Osasuna ran out 2-0 winners in the reverse match earlier this season, while they have not lost to Cadiz in Spain's top flight since April 1989, which is an indication of the size of the task facing the hosts here.

Los Rojillos have picked up six points from their last three league matches, and they will enter this match off the back of a 3-2 home success over top-four challengers Real Betis on Saturday.

Ante Budimir scored twice in the impressive victory for Jagoba Arrasate's side, with the victory moving them onto 41 points, which is enough for eighth spot in the table at this stage of proceedings.

Osasuna, who will face Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final next month, are only actually six points behind sixth-placed Villarreal, and it would be a remarkable achievement if they could finish in a European position in Spain's top flight.

The team have previous when it comes to high finishes, claiming seventh in 2011-12, while they were fourth in 2005-06, picking up 68 points during an excellent campaign.

Team News

Cadiz have a fairly lengthy injury list at the moment, with Anthony Lozano, Jorge Mere, Gonzalo Escalante, Brian Ocampo, Juan Cala, Jon Ander Garrido and Joseba Zaldua all on the sidelines.

The Yellow Submarine are also likely to be without the services of Fali, who was replaced in the early stages of the contest with Espanyol, which could see Victor Chust come into the side.

Ivan Alejo and Alex Fernandez are among the options for change in midfield, and it would not be a surprise to see a start for either, with head coach Sergio likely to freshen his side for this match.

As for Osasuna, Lucas Torro and Darko Brasanac remain on the sidelines through injury, but Moi Gomez is available again after serving a suspension against Real Betis.

Head coach Arrasate will need to assess the fitness of his players following Saturday's game, but it would not be a surprise to see the same XI due to the manner of the performance.

Indeed, Budimir's brace will see him keep his spot at centre-forward, while there will be another start in a wide position for on-loan Barcelona attacker Abde Ezzalzouli.

Cadiz possible starting lineup:
Ledesma; Carcelen, Hernandez, Chust, Espino; Alejo, Alcaraz, Alex, Sobrino; Guardiola, Ramos

Osasuna possible starting lineup:
Herrera; Pena, Aridane, D Garcia, Cruz; Oroz, Moncayola, Ibanez; Barja, Budimir, Ezzalzouli

We say: Cadiz 1-2 Osasuna

Osasuna were brilliant against Real Betis last time out, and their overall record against Cadiz has to be taken into account when choosing a result here. We are expecting a close match, but Osasuna should be able to navigate their way to an important three points in Tuesday's affair.
