Andre Gray double lifts Burnley up to second

Burnley see off Fulham 3-1 at Turf Moor to climb up to second place in the Championship table.

A first-half Andre Gray brace has helped Burnley on their way to a 3-1 win over Fulham at Turf Moor.

The summer signing from Brentford was at it from the off, getting in behind the opposition backline and pulling the ball back for David Jones to shoot wide.

The hosts sustained their pressure, with Sam Vokes jumping highest to head wide Ben Mee's cross, before Gray was picked out at the back post to open his account for the evening.

Gray was not finished there, punishing Fulham for a second time in the opening 45 minutes when taking Scott Arfield's pass in his stride and calmly slotting over stand-in stopper Joe Lewis.

Burnley looked to pick up from where they left off in the second half, with Vokes firing in a rather tame right-footed shot, but it was Fulham who managed to find a route back into the game through Ross McCormack.

The Scottish striker's 10th goal of the season came courtesy of a curled effort inside the box, restoring some hope that was nearly extinguished just minutes later when Gray clipped the bar with his latest attempt.

Dan Burn then had to be alert to clear Vokes's header off the line, yet the Cottagers did enjoy a spell of pressure midway through the second period which the hosts just about saw out.

After riding the Fulham threat, Matty Taylor rounded things off for the Clarets at the death to seal the points, meaning that Fulham drop to 11th as a result of their first defeat in six.
