Preview: Brighton & Hove Albion Women vs. West Ham United Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Brighton & Hove Albion Women and West Ham United Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Relegation-threatened Brighton & Hove Albion Women will have the chance to claim consecutive home victories when they play host to West Ham United Women on Sunday.

The visitors, meanwhile, are hoping to end their poor run of form after failing to win any of their last eight Women's Super League games.

Melissa Phillips has experienced a mixed start to her tenure as Brighton boss, winning one, drawing one and losing two of her opening four games across all competitions.

The Seagulls would have been disappointed to pick up just a point from last weekend's away meeting with Tottenham Hotspur after they took the lead on two occasions thanks to efforts from Elisabeth Terland and Lee Geum-min, but a Beth England brace ensured that the contest ended in a 2-2 draw.

With four matches to play, Brighton are sitting in 11th position and are two points clear of Reading, who occupy the sole relegation place and have played one more game than the Seagulls.

Having conceded 56 goals in 18 games, Brighton have the worst defensive record in the WSL, which has played a key role in their struggles this season.

Despite shipping four goals in their previous meeting against West Ham, the Seagulls scored five of their own to claim a memorable victory, and they will be looking to complete a league double on Sunday.

West Ham were not in action last weekend, but the Hammers will still be reeling from the 6-2 defeat that they suffered in their most recent outing against Manchester City.

The disappointing result ensured that West Ham have gone eight league games without a win, while four of their last five WSL matches have ended in defeat.

With six points separating them from the sole relegation place, the Hammers should be safe for another season, but Paul Konchesky will be desperate for his side to return to winning ways.

After losing their last four away league games by a combined 19-3 scoreline, Konchesky will be looking for an improved defensive display this weekend.

If the Hammers are to pick up a positive result then the first goal could be decisive, as West Ham have lost all eight league games this season where they have conceded first.

Team News

Poppy Pattinson dropped out of the Brighton lineup for the 2-2 with Tottenham, but she could be recalled to the side for Sunday's contest.

After coming off the bench to score in the second half against Spurs, Lee may also return to the starting XI.

Having scored four goals in Brighton's last three games, Terland will be looking to continue her impressive form this weekend.

As for the Hammers, Jess Ziu continues to recover from an anterior cruciate ligament injury that she sustained in October.

After being hampered by injuries, January signing Amber Tysiak made her West Ham debut as a late substitute last weekend, and she is likely to be utilised off the bench against Brighton.

Vivianne Asseyi has top scored in the WSL for West Ham this season, and she will attempt to add to her six-goal tally on Sunday.

Brighton & Hove Albion Women possible starting lineup:
L. Williams; Fox, Morse, Kullberg, Pattinson; Connolly, Bance; Robinson, Lee, Sarri; Terland

West Ham United Women possible starting lineup:
Arnold; Shimizu; Fisk, Cissoko, Smith; Hayashi, Parker; Evans, Brynsjarsdottir, Snerle; Asseyi

We say: Brighton & Hove Albion Women 2-1 West Ham United Women

Brighton have won only one of their last 12 league games, but may see Sunday's fixture as a golden opportunity to claim all three points.

The Seagulls got the better of West Ham in the reverse fixture, and with the Hammers winless in eight WSL matches, we think that they will record a narrow victory to complete a league double.
