Chris Hughton: 'Pushing for top six is Brighton & Hove Albion's aim'

Chris Hughton plays down expectations

Chris Hughton has played down Brighton & Hove Albion's impressive start to the season by claiming that finishing in the top 10 is still the main target.

The Seagulls are currently top of the Championship after taking 16 points from their opening six games.

Brighton struggled at the wrong end of the table last season, eventually finishing down in 20th place, and Hughton is keen to put a lid on the high expectation levels of claiming automatic promotion.

"One thing we won't change is what we said at the start of the season, that we'd like to see ourselves in a position where we can at least challenge to go up and that certainly means at least pushing for top six," he is quoted as saying by The Argus.

"If I looked at last season, apart from the top six there were probably four other teams very close to it. The initial target was to put ourselves in a position to challenge and that's still the same."

Brighton play host to bottom side Rotherham United in their next outing on Tuesday night.
