Transfer news and rumours today: Brentford's Caoimhin Kelleher injury update, Sunderland defender latest, Hee-Chan Hwang exit

Transfer news and rumours: Kelleher injury, Sunderland latest and Hwang's exit

Brentford boss Keith Andrews has confirmed that goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher should be ready for the start of the season despite picking up a knock.

The Bees have endured a turbulent summer window, losing Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United and manager Thomas Frank to Tottenham Hotspur.

Forward Yoane Wissa is expected to complete a transfer to Newcastle United, and if the Londoners are to navigate such upheaval next season, they will need their new signings to hit the ground running.

Goalkeeper Kelleher was brought from Liverpool this summer, but he was absent from the matchday squad on Friday that faced Borussia Monchengladbach.

Speaking to reporters in the aftermath of the game, Andrews revealed that the goalkeeper's issue is expected to be short term, unlike Gustavo Nunes, saying: "Exact time scale [of Nunes], I'm not entirely sure.

"Certainly not in the Kevin and Caoimhin territory of short-term. It will be more significant than that, it will be weeks."

Brentford will face Nottingham Forest on August 17 in their first game of the Premier League season.

Sunderland transfer window: Deal agreed with La Liga defender

Sunderland have reportedly agreed terms with Getafe defender Omar Alderete, with the club keen on strengthening further.

The Black Cats earned promotion back to the Premier League after winning the Championship playoff final against Sheffield United in May.

No promoted side has survived in the top flight in the past two seasons, but Sunderland are looking to end that run having spent significant sums this summer.

The club have spent almost £110m this transfer window, bringing players such as winger Simon Adingra to the Stadium of Light.

Ben Jacobs has claimed that Sunderland have also agreed personal terms with Getafe centre-back Alderete, and that negotiations with the Spanish club are at an advanced stage.

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker exit?

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Hee-Chan Hwang has been subject of two approaches this summer, the latest report has claimed.

The Old Gold will be hoping to avoid a relegation battle next term, especially as boss Vitor Pereira has restored a sense of optimism amongst supporters.

Pereira faces the difficult prospect of trying to replace Matheus Cunha, who completed a transfer to Manchester United earlier this summer.

Wolves have so far signed four players this transfer window, though striker Jorgen Strand Larsen was on loan at the club in 2024-25 from Celta Vigo already.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Wolves may have to delve back into the market given the club have received two approaches for striker Hwang.
