Alfie Mawson ditches Brentford to join Barnsley

Mawson swaps Brentford for Barnsley

Defender Alfie Mawson has rejected a new contract with Brentford to sign for League One side Barnsley.

The 21-year-old turned down a two-year offer from the Bees to pen a three-year deal with the Tykes.

Mawson made one senior appearance for Brentford in the League Cup two years ago, but had a successful season on loan with Wycombe Wanderers in League Two last term.

He played a total of 50 games for the Chairboys and scored seven goals to help them to the playoff final, where they were beaten by Southend United on penalties.
