Wissa transfer news: Brentford star informs Keith Andrews of 'desire' to leave amid Newcastle interest

Bees stung: Wissa informs Andrews of 'desire' to leave Brentford

Brentford striker Yoane Wissa has informed head coach Keith Andrews of his desire to leave the club amid interest from Newcastle United.

The Bees have already seen Mark Flekken, Christian Norgaard and Bryan Mbeumo leave in the current transfer window.

Brentford are now facing a battle to retain Wissa's services, having already rejected a £25m bid from Newcastle for the DR Congo international.

Wissa left Brentford's training camp in Portugal last week due to the speculation surrounding his future at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Wissa tells Andrews he wants to leave Brentford

It was then reported that Wissa had threatened not to play for the club again, feeling that Brentford have reneged on an agreement to allow him to depart if a suitable offer arrived.

Another report claimed that Wissa had no plan to return to training with the rest of the Brentford squad on Thursday.

According to BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel, Wissa stood by his stance and opted not to participate in Thursday's training ground.

The striker attended the club's headquarters and 'reiterated his desire' to leave in a meeting with Andrews, before he left the vicinity without joining his teammates on the training pitch.

What next for Wissa and Brentford?

Wissa's current situation seems to rest on whether Newcastle can reach an agreement with Brentford over a transfer.

The Magpies have been linked with other targets and could look elsewhere if the Bees refuse to sell Wissa this summer.

If Brentford stand firm, Andrews will be left with a difficult situation of managing an unhappy player, who happens to be his star striker.

Andrews' current focus will be on preparing his squad for Saturday's friendly against fellow West London side Queens Park Rangers.
