Bruce, Carsley in running for Manager of the Month gong

Brentford's Lee Carsley could cap his opening weeks as a senior football boss by bagging October's Championship Manager of the Month award.

The 41-year-old was appointed at Griffin Park five weeks ago following a poor start to life under Marinus Dijkhuizen.

Eight points from 24 under the Dutchman soon turned into 12 from 18 under Carsley, including four wins from five in October.

Steve Bruce is also a frontrunner to claim the monthly accolade, having led Hull City to top spot in the table while conceding just one goal in the process last month.

The Tigers' unbeaten run now stands at nine games, one less than Derby County's impressive streak which explains Paul Clement's involvement in the running to be crowned top boss.

October saw a return of 13 points from a possible 15 for the Rams, making them the second-tier's in-form side.

Burnley chief Sean Dyche completes the list of nominees, meanwhile, with four wins and a draw to show for his side's efforts throughout a profitable month.

The winner is due to be announced on Friday morning.
