Half-Time Report: Brentford edge ahead at Griffin Park against Bournemouth

Brentford edge ahead at Griffin Park

A goal right on the stroke of half time from Alex Pritchard has handed Brentford a 2-1 lead at the break of their Championship clash against Bournemouth.

The visitors were the first to threaten as Simon Francis found space to run down the right and his cross was met by Callum Wilson, but his low drive was well saved by David Button.

The stop from Button would prove to be crucial as Brentford took the lead when Pritchard lifted a cross into the box which was picked up by Jonathan Douglas, and the midfielder managed to turn his man and rifle a shot into the bottom corner.

Jota came close to doubling the home side's lead when he cut in from the right flank and drilled a low effort towards goal, but Boruc was on hand to make the save.

Minutes later, Pritchard should have beaten the Bournemouth keeper when played through on goal, but he could only poke his shot wide of the target.

The home side would rue those missed chances as Eddie Howe's men found an equaliser when Marc Pugh won a footrace to reach a ball over the top. His initial effort hit the post, but he reacted first to turn the ball home.

However, just before the break, Pritchard drove a free kick at goal from 30 yards, which should have been a comfortable save for Boruc, but he somehow managed to punch the ball into his own net and hand the Bees the lead.
