Fred: 'My Brazil career is over'

Fluminense forward Fred admits that his Brazil career has come to an end.

Fluminense forward Fred has conceded that his international career with Brazil is now over.

The 31-year-old finished joint-top scorer at the 2013 Confederations Cup, but really struggled to make his mark at the 2014 World Cup – netting just once during a disappointing campaign.

Following the World Cup, Fred announced his retirement as Dunga replaced Luiz Felipe Scolari in charge, but the striker then back-tracked on his decision.

It appears that Fred is not in Dunga's plans moving forward, however, and the former Lyon striker has now admitted that his time with the national team is over.

"Honestly, returning to the national team is no longer something I think about it. I am concentrating solely on [club football] here at Fluminense," Fred told Radio Globo.

Fred netted 18 times in 39 games for Brazil.
