Bournemouth team news: Andoni Iraola reveals whether Evanilson could start against Brighton

Iraola reveals whether Evanilson could start against Brighton

Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola has revealed that Evanilson could start Tuesday's Premier League clash against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Evanilson has not played for Bournemouth since suffering a broken metatarsal in a 1-0 win over Everton at the start of January.

The Brazilian returned to the matchday squad for Saturday's home clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers, but he remained on the bench for the duration of the 1-0 defeat.

Iraola has revealed that Evanilson is an option to start at the Amex Stadium, but he is unsure of how long the striker would last if he were to lead the line against the Seagulls.

Iraola makes Evanilson admission

"The problem with Evanilson is that he hasn't trained," Iraola told reporters in Monday's pre-match press conference.

"He has recovered from the injury but when you have a bone injury, you have to wait until it heals. He has lost a lot of training and it's more about the shape he is in right now than the proper injury.

"I think he could start but the problem could be how long he could last because he lacks the training days. The process you get with other injuries is normally more smooth."

Bournemouth's club-record signing has scored five goals in 19 Premier League appearances since he joined the club from Porto in the summer transfer window.

Who will miss Bournemouth's clash with Brighton?

Evanilson's fellow forward Enes Unal remains unavailable for selection, with the former Getafe man set to miss the rest of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January.

The Cherries will also be without the defensive trio of Adam Smith, Julian Araujo and Marcos Senesi due to their respective injury issues.

Iraola was unsure whether Bournemouth have any other fresh injury concerns, although he did reveal that an appeal has been lodged against Ilya Zabarnyi's red card.

The Ukraine international was sent off in the first half against Wolves and will miss the meeting with Brighton if Bournemouth's appeal is unsuccessful.
