Preview: Boreham Wood vs. Gateshead - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Boreham Wood and Gateshead, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Boreham Wood will look to pick up a point that would seal their place in the National League playoffs when they welcome Gateshead to Meadow Park on Tuesday.

The visitors, who are sitting in 17th spot, have little to play for in terms of league position, but they will be hoping to end a three-game winless run.

Boreham Wood missed the chance to book their place in the playoffs when they faced Wrexham in their final away game of the season on Saturday.

Lee Ndlovu found the net in the opening 60 seconds to give his side an early lead, but an Elliot Lee equaliser and a Paul Mullin brace condemned the Wood to a 3-1 defeat and secured Wrexham's promotion to the EFL.

Despite shipping three goals at the weekend, Boreham Wood still boast the best defensive record in the fifth tier, having conceded just 38 goals in 44 league matches.

Luke Garrard's side are currently in the final playoff position, and they will be aware that they need to pick up just one point in their final two fixtures to guarantee their spot in the top seven.

The Boreham Wood boss will be keen for his side to get the job done on Tuesday as they look to claim consecutive home victories after beating Wealdstone in their last match at Meadow Park.

Gateshead, meanwhile, will remain in the National League for another season, but they will be looking to improve upon their current position in their final two games.

Tuesday's visitors are hoping to return to winning ways after their winless run was extended to three matches with a 2-1 away defeat to Woking on Saturday.

A first-half brace from Rhys Browne gave Woking a two-goal lead, and although Adam Campbell halved the deficit in the second half, Gateshead were unable to find an equaliser.

With Gateshead set to face Halifax Town in the FA Trophy final next month, they will want to avoid going into the Wembley encounter off the back of a winless run.

However, finding a winner between Gateshead and Boreham Wood may prove to be difficult, with the last three meetings all finishing in 1-1 draws

Team News

Although Boreham Wood were beaten by Wrexham at the weekend, Garrard may opt for consistency and select the same lineup for a fourth consecutive game.

Ndlovu scored his 11th league goal of the season on Saturday, and the forward will be looking to add to his tally when he features up front against Gateshead.

As for the visitors, they are still unable to call upon the services of Elliot Forbes, Kenton Richardson and Lewis Knight, who are all sidelined with injury issues.

Lirak Hasani went straight into the lineup at the weekend after being recalled from a loan spell at Boston United, and he is expected to retain his place for Tuesday's contest.

After dropping down to the bench against Woking, Kamil Conteh and Robbie Tinkler could both return to the starting XI.

Boreham Wood possible starting lineup:
Ashmore; Agbontohoma, Evans, Bush; Sousa, Payne, Broadbent, Ilesanmi; Brunt; Ndlovu, Marsh

Gateshead possible starting lineup:
Marschall; Tinkler, Storey, Pye, Hasani; Conteh, Whelan, Francis, Conteh; Campbell, Dinanga

We say: Boreham Wood 2-1 Gateshead

While Gateshead do not have much to play for, Boreham Wood still require a point to seal a playoff place, and we think that the extra motivation could help them secure a narrow victory on Tuesday.
