Marvin Sordell nets winner for Burnley against Blackpool

Burnley record a 1-0 win over a threadbare Blackpool side at Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoon.

Burnley continued their pre-season preparations with a 1-0 win over a threadbare Blackpool on Saturday afternoon.

Marvin Sordell netted the winner on 68 minutes when he reacted first to score from close range.

The friendly at Bloomfield Road will be largely remembered for the pre-match protests from Blackpool fans over the way owner Karl Oyston is running the club.

The home side currently only have 12 registered players with the Championship season due to get underway later this month, and it was the newly-promoted Clarets who emerged triumphant.

Blackpool, who fielded eight players who were on trial, were forced onto the back foot through Dean Marney's effort, but the ex-Spurs striker's effort could only rattle the crossbar in the first half.

Sordell then went close with a curling 25-yard effort before Ross Wallace's attempt was saved by the Blackpool triallist.
