Blackpool appoint Jose Riga as new manager on one-year rolling contract

Riga appointed Blackpool manager

Blackpool have announced the appointment of Jose Riga as the Championship club's new manager on a one-year rolling contract.

The 56-year-old was expected to be named as the Seasiders' new boss following a short stint at Charlton Athletic, where he guided the team to safety in the Championship last season.

After leaving the Addicks, Riga was placed as a contender for the Blackpool job following an interim role for Barry Ferguson, who took over from Paul Ince as coach at Bloomfield Road in January.

Blackpool have now confirmed that Riga, who has previously coached Standard Liege, will take charge of the team for the 2014-15 season.

Blackpool finished two points above relegation in the Championship last season.
