Mario Gomez close to return

Mario Gomez is close to making his return to competitive action, according to Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes.

The Germany forward, 27, has been on the sidelines for the past three months after undergoing surgery on his left ankle.

However, he is expected to train with the rest of the Bayern squad on Saturday.

"Mario Gomez is looking good," said Heynckes. "We'll bring him into team training in doses."

Gomez has scored 25 goals in 57 senior international appearances.
