Philipp Lahm eager for Pep Guardiola to sign new deal

Philipp Lahm admits that he is desperate to see Pep Guardiola sign a new contract with Bayern Munich.

Philipp Lahm has insisted that every Bayern Munich player is desperate for Pep Guardiola to stay at the club beyond the end of the season.

Guardiola is in the final year of his current deal with Bayern but he has previously admitted that he would find it difficult to remain at one team for a long spell.

There has been no suggestion that the Spaniard is close to signing a new contract, but Lahm is hopeful that he will be given the opportunity to continue working with the former Barcelona boss.

"The team's opinion is clear. We enjoy working together with our coach and he is an outstanding manager," the Bayern captain told reporters after Saturday's 4-0 victory over FC Koln maintained their 100% Bundesliga record this season.

"Everything else is not in our hands. The only thing I can say is that the team would like Guardiola to stay."

Guardiola has won five major honours since becoming Bayern boss in the summer of 2013.
