Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has expressed his delight following the 7-1 demolition of Hoffenheim yesterday, which eased fears of the 66-year-old getting the sack.

Critics had been calling for the former Real Madrid coach to step down after a series of disappointing results left the club adrift of league leaders Borussia Dortmund.

However, Bayern romped to victory yesterday, scoring their seven goals in the opening 58 minutes before also putting one through their own net late on.

"We played a fantastic game," said Heynckes. "Our goals were right out of the textbook.

"It was a delicacy. We were on fire. My side were hungry and they were united and it was a joy to watch."

Bayern next face Basel in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash and must overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg.
