Schmidt: 'We need two perfect games'

Bayer Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt has admitted that his side will have to up their game if they want to get past Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

The two sides meet at the BayArena in the last 16 tomorrow night, with Bayer coach Schmidt suggesting that his team require two perfect games in order to reach the quarter-final stages of the tournament.

"On Wednesday we have to play at a higher level than in the Bundesliga. The group stage was tough, but in this round even stronger opponents await," said the coach, according to Goal.com.

"Atletico have a good team, they were in the final last year and for years they have played at a consistently high level. But we want to show the crowd that we have a chance to progress. We are the outsider in this tie, but we have two games.

"Tomorrow we will play the first 90 minutes of 180 – we have to show everybody that we can cause Atletico some problems. We need two perfect games to go through to the next round. If we get a good result tomorrow, everything is possible for the second match."

Leverkusen currently hold sixth place in the Bundesliga table.
