Lionel Messi "would love" Newell's Old Boys return

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi says that he "would love" to return to first club Newell's Old Boys before hanging up his boots.

Lionel Messi has revealed that he "would love" to return to Newell's Old Boys before hanging up his boots.

Messi spent six years with the Argentine outfit between 1994 and 2000 before joining Barcelona at the age of 13.

The forward has always maintained a desire to return to his first club, however, and the 29-year-old, speaking on Argentinian television, has confirmed that he is planning on returning to his homeland.

"I would love to [return]. It is something I have always kept my eye on as it was my dream (to play for the club) as a child. My life started to change and I have no regrets that I moved on, but I would love to return to play in Argentina and to play for Newell's, where I grew up," Messi told Telefe's Polemica en el Bar.

Messi, who is currently nursing a groin problem, has won 29 trophies during a 12-year professional career with Barcelona, scoring 456 times in 535 appearances for the Spanish giants.
