Barcelona are reportedly preparing to offer teenage midfielder Gavi a new five-year contract.

The 17-year-old has made the breakthrough into the club's first team this season, featuring on seven occasions in all competitions, while he recently became Spain's youngest-ever player.

Gavi's current deal at Camp Nou is due to expire in June 2023, and a recent report claimed that both Manchester United and Liverpool were prepared to pay the €50m (£42.4m) release clause in his agreement.

However, Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste revealed at the weekend that the Catalan giants are preparing to offer the Spaniard a new and improved contract.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the La Liga outfit are planning to hand Gavi a five-year deal which will see his salary increase on a season-to-season basis.

The youngster was named in the starting team for both of Spain's UEFA Nations League Finals matches, featuring in the semi-final win over Italy before turning out in the defeat to France in the final.
