Barcelona 'beat Real Madrid to signing of Spanish teenager'

Barcelona have reportedly won the race to sign Racing de Santander teenager Pablo Torre.

The 18-year-old has been in strong form at club level this season, scoring six times and registering six assists in 21 appearances in the third tier of Spanish football.

A number of clubs, including Barcelona and Real Madrid, have been linked with the teenager, and a recent report claimed that the two biggest sides in Spain would go head-to-head for his signature.

According to Marca, Barcelona are now closing in on a deal for the youngster, having already agreed personal terms on a long-term contract.

The report claims that Torre has a €10m (£8.3m) release clause in his contract, but Xavi's side are in discussions with Racing over a lower transfer fee.

Torre will allegedly initially turn out for Barcelona B but will also be considered to represent the first team next season depending on his development.

Barcelona boss Xavi is believed to have played a key role in convincing the youngster to reject offers from the likes of Real Madrid and Real Sociedad to make the move to Camp Nou.
