Barcelona club president: 'Dani Alves wants to stay at the club'

Alves 'wants to stay at Barca'

Barcelona club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has insisted that Dani Alves wants to stay at the Camp Nou, despite yet agreeing to a new deal.

The Brazilian's agent Dinorah Santana revealed last month that the full-back has rejected an offer from the Spanish giants.

Alves's representative suggested that her client will look elsewhere by claiming that Barcelona were not going to put forward a fresh offer, but Bartomeu has stated otherwise.

"He is an important player who contributes a lot," BBC Sport quotes Bartomeu as saying. "I hope he renews. We have asked him to and we're discussing it. I know he'd like to stay and Barca want him to stay."

The 31-year-old, who has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, will come to the end of his current terms this summer.
