Man United transfer news: Red Devils receive major update in Alejandro Balde pursuit after Hull City horror show

"A difficult question" - Man United receive major update in Balde pursuit

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has refused to rule out a move away from Camp Nou for Alejandro Balde amid suggestions of interest from Manchester United.

The Red Devils, who lost 2-0 to Hull City in their 2026-27 Premier League opener on Saturday, are keen to sign a new left-back before this summer's transfer window closes for business.

Man United are believed to have made contact with Balde's agent to discuss a potential move for the Spaniard in the closing stages of the market.

Flick was asked about the situation during his press conference on Saturday.

The German admitted that it was "a difficult question" to answer, refusing to rule out a departure before the end of the transfer window.

Man United are being linked with a move for Balde

“It’s a difficult question because he’s a player of immense quality, and it’s important to know if he’s confident he can compete in his position," Flick told reporters.

"That’s what I want to see from all my players. Every day I observe what they do, their level, whether they demonstrate that they’re at the level to play. Ultimately, we have to play as a team; only then will we achieve success. I need everyone to be 100%.”

Balde, 22, has scored three goals and registered 21 assists in 168 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions, and he is regarded as one of the best left-backs in the world when in full flow.

Last season, Balde provided three assists in 42 appearances for the Catalan outfit, but he was kept out of the side at times by Joao Cancelo, who has now signed for the club on a permanent basis.

Balde has 'decided to leave' Barcelona

According to Jijantes FC, Balde has decided that he wants to leave Barcelona before the end of this summer's transfer window.

Man United want a new left-back to provide competition for Luke Shaw moving forward, with the club's issues in that area again on display in their defeat to Hull.

AC Milan, Aston Villa and Benfica are also believed to be keeping a close eye on the situation with a view to a move.

Balde is thought to be concerned about his minutes this season following the return of Cancelo, especially as Gerard Martin can also operate in that area of the field.
