Ronald Koeman: 'Barcelona are still in La Liga title race'

Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman insists that his team are still capable of winning La Liga this season.

Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has insisted that his team are still in the race for the La Liga title.

A largely disappointing campaign to date has left the Catalan giants down in fifth position in the table, 10 points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, who have a game in hand on Barca.

However, despite the size of the advantage enjoyed by the Madrid outfit, Koeman insisted after Sunday's 1-0 win over Huesca that his side were capable of finishing at the summit.

"This month is very important for our aspirations because we have lots of games away from home and, if we win them, I think we can fight. We've seen this weekend that it's not easy to win away from home. If a team [above us] goes on a bad run, the gap can be closed, but it depends on us winning," Koeman told reporters.

Barca are unbeaten in their last five league matches, although they have recently been held by both Valencia and Eibar at Camp Nou.

Lionel Messi made a telling contribution on his return from injury on Sunday, providing the assist for Frenkie de Jong to score the only goal of the contest in the first period.
