Valencia have vowed to issue a lifetime ban to the supporter found guilty of throwing a bottle at Barcelona's Lionel Messi on Sunday evening.
Barca scored in stoppage time to secure all three points, which led to jubilant celebrations from the Catalan outfit.
Messi fell to the ground during the celebration at the Mestalla and replays showed that the Argentine was struck in the face by an object – later revealed to be a bottle – thrown from the crowd.
"Valencia regret and condemn the isolated incident in the game against Barcelona, in which a small, uncapped bottle of water was thrown from the stands at opposition player Lionel Messi," read the statement on the club's official website.
"The club will endeavour to locate the person who threw the bottle, and they will be banned for life from Mestalla.
"Valencia operate a zero tolerance policy on such actions and rigorously enforce all security measures set out by legislation."
Messi received a booking for pleading his case to the referee.
