Javier Mascherano shares concerns over centre-back role at Barcelona

Argentine international Javier Mascherano has admitted that his centre-back role at Barcelona is a risky position.

Mascherano received criticism from the Catalan press for his performance against Real Madrid in the Super Cup Final, which Barca lost over two legs.

He told Mundo Deportivo: "I run a lot more risk playing centrally for Barca than in any other team due to how we play.

"We are constantly attacking and yes, we have 70% of possession, but three or four times they will attack you.

"Every mistake, like mine against Real Madrid, is a goal. Playing in the centre at Barcelona is a risk, but I also particularly like to run that risk."

Mascherano was talking to the media ahead of Argentina's World Cup qualifier against Peru on Tuesday.
