Gerard Pique given four-match ban for verbally abusing official

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has been given a four-match ban for using abusive language towards a linesman.

The 28-year-old was sent off after confronting the official during his side's clash with Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup at Camp Nou on Monday.

Barca drew 1-1 in the second leg, handing Bilbao a 5-1 aggregate triumph.

Pique will miss the La Liga games against Bilbao, Malaga, Atletico Madrid and Levante.

Barcelona start the new season with a trip to San Mames this Sunday.
