Luiz Felipe Scolari blasts Diego Costa

Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari criticises Diego Costa's decision to represent Spain at international level.

Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has blasted Diego Costa's decision to play his international football for Spain.

The Atletico Madrid striker has twice played in friendlies for the country of his birth Brazil, but has chosen to represent Spain after gaining citizenship this summer.

Scolari had been hopeful of convincing the 25-year-old to represent the Selecao, but Costa signed the necessary Spanish documentation on Tuesday.

"A Brazilian player who refuses to wear the shirt of the Brazilian national team and compete in a World Cup in his country can only be automatically called off," Scolari told reporters.

"He has turned his back on the dream of millions, to represent the five-time champions at a World Cup in Brazil."

Costa has scored 11 times in La Liga this season - more than both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
