Preview: Atletico Madrid vs. Eibar

Atletico vs. Eibar

Diego Simeone will begin an eight-match touchline ban when Atletico Madrid go searching for a first win of the La Liga season against Eibar on Saturday.

The fiery Argentine manager has been reprimanded by the Spanish Football Federation for his behaviour in the Super Cup victory over Real Madrid.

The reigning champions got the better of their capital rivals in the two-legged affair, but could not take that momentum into their league opener on Monday as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Rayo Vallecano.

Eibar began their first campaign back in the Spanish top flight in 26 years with a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad.

Javi Lara stole the headlines for the newly-promoted club with a thunderous free kick, and the visitors to the Vicente Calderon stadium could stick with the same starting XI this weekend.

The Basque club continued their shrewd summer business with the free transfer of former Barcelona forward Saul, and loan signing of AC Milan full-back Didac Vila this week, and both players could be among the substitutes.

Diego Godin should be recalled to resume his defensive partnership with Miranda after missing the trip to Vallecano, where Christian Ansaldi deputised in a back five still recovering from the departures of Filipe Luis and Thibaut Courtois.

Goalscoring midfielder Raul Garcia could also be restored to the starting XI after shaking off a knock and will lend his attacking support to lone striker Mario Mandzukic, with Raul Jiminez dropping to the bench.

Arda Turan is still sidelined for Atletico, who are unbeaten in their last 20 home matches in La Liga.
