Jose Gimenez pleased with breakthrough season

Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez has thanked his side for 'the confidence that they have offered' this season.

The defender is still just 19, but has edged out Miranda in the Atletico back four this season.

The Uruguay international's performances have drawn widespread praise and he has revealed his delight at how the season has unfolded.

"It has been a very competitive semester, I have confidence, I have grown and I felt very calm, with a lot of desire to play in the best way possible. I am very happy with the confidence that they offer me," he told the club's official website.

Gimenez, who is believed to be a big-money transfer target for Manchester City, has already gained 14 caps for his country.
