Filipe Luis has hailed the Atletico Madrid supporters following the Spanish club's progression into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

A 4-1 win over AC Milan on Tuesday ensured that Atletico advanced into the final eight with a 5-1 aggregate score.

Luis has credited the Atletico supporters for their part in the win, claiming that the bond between the club and fans "is amazing".

"It was difficult to get here but we're excited to go further," he told UEFA's official website.

"The bond with the fans is amazing. We must get as far as possible."

Atletico's last appearance in the final eight of the European Cup came in 1997.
