Aston Villa are reportedly prepared to spend £20m on a new striker during the January transfer window.

Aston Villa will reportedly prioritise a new striker during the January transfer window.

Despite adding Wesley Moraes to his squad during the summer, Dean Smith has been left with little competition for the Brazilian, partly due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of Jonathan Kodjia.

The Ivorian is also currently sidelined through injury, leaving Smith to focus his attentions on finding a new frontman.

According to Football Insider, the West Midlands outfit are prepared to spend as much as £20m in order to ensure that they remain strong in the final third for the second half of the campaign.

Villa have netted just four times in their opening five Premier League fixtures, with Wesley, John McGinn, Anwar El Ghazi and Douglas Luiz scoring one goal apiece.

Nevertheless, the top-flight side did record a 6-1 success over Crewe Alexandra in the EFL Cup last month.
