Aston Villa are reportedly exploring the possibility of re-signing Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Marco Asensio.
The 29-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park having fallen out of favour at Parc des Princes.
With eight goals and one assists from 21 appearances, the temporary stint in the West Midlands can be viewed as a success, even though Villa did not qualify for the Champions League for the second campaign in a row.
That was largely the reason why Villa did not pay in the region of £15m to secure an immediate deal for the Spain international once the summer transfer window opened.
Nevertheless, as per The Telegraph, Villa are now ready to reconsider any opportunity to reunite themselves with the attacker.
Villa considering Asensio move
The report suggests that both a permanent or loan transfer could be viewed as acceptable by PSG chiefs.
Asensio has less than one year remaining on his contract and the European champions may be prepared to accept a cut-price fee to get his wages off their outgoings.
Teams from Turkey and Saudi Arabia have already failed to tempt Asensio into a move to those aforementioned nations, leaving the player in limbo with less than three weeks remaining of the market.
As it stands, it remains to be seen whether Asensio is ready to jump at a chance to return to the Premier League or continue to assess his options.
He is without any pre-season football and would require time to get up to speed with any new club.
The marquee signing that Villa need?
Although Villa have recently completed the big-money acquisition of Evann Guessand from Nice, their summer business has, so far, been underwhelming.
Bringing in Asensio, who enjoyed his first period at the club, would lift the mood as Villa attempt to remain in the upper echelons of the Premier League.
If, as expected, Jacob Ramsey is sold, Unai Emery will be left with five notable options for the final third, as well as players in Emiliano Buendia, Samuel Iling-Junior and Lewis Dobbin who may have no future at the club.
