Micah Richards: 'I'll always appreciate what Tim Sherwood did for me'

Micah Richards says that he will always be grateful to recently-sacked Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood.

Aston Villa team captain Micah Richards has expressed his gratitude to Tim Sherwood following the manager's dismissal.

The 46-year-old was sacked on Sunday after recording six Premier League defeats in a row.

Sherwood signed Richards in the summer transfer window and named the full-back team captain in August.

On Twitter, Richards wrote: "Just want to thank the manager for everything he did during his time at the club. As players we also have to take responsibility and I'll always appreciate him bringing me to this great club #UTV."

Villa are currently at the bottom of the league table, four points adrift of safety.
