Feyenoord, Aston Villa put lengthy streaks on line ahead of Europa League showdown at De Kuip

Feyenoord, Aston Villa put lengthy streaks on line in Europa League fixture

Feyenoord and Aston Villa will each be looking to defend lengthy streaks when they face off in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Eredivisie and Premier League giants are viewed as two of the favourites to win the competition, providing that they move through the League Phase.

While Villa edged their way past Bologna last week, Feyenoord suffered a 1-0 defeat in Braga ahead of welcoming Unai Emery's side to De Kuip.

However, with Robin van Persie's side sitting at the top of the Eredivisie table, it highlights that this is one of the most high-profile games that this season's Europa League has to offer.

Ahead of the game in the Netherlands, both teams are putting unbeaten streaks on the line in what is their first-ever competitive meeting.

As far as Feyenoord are concerned, they have put together a six-game unbeaten streak at De Kuip in the Europa League.

Rather than four wins and two draws being eye-catching, Feyenoord are averaging three goals per game across that period, albeit a 6-0 victory over Sturm Graz and 7-1 triumph over Shakhtar Donetsk helping this particular statistic.

That said, Feyenoord can also count home wins over Bayern Munich and AC Milan on their record from last season's Champions League.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have put together a five-game unbeaten run against teams from the Netherlands, prevailing on four occasions.

Four of those encounters came in the 2023-24 Conference League as Villa came through matches with AZ Alkmaar in the group stage and Ajax in the last 16 without losing.

The other fixture in question was a 2-1 success over Ajax in the 2008-09 UEFA Cup.

How does Villa's away record in Europe look under Emery?

Since the 2023-24 Conference League playoff round, Villa supporters have had 13 away days in Europe.

Just five wins have been recorded during that period, victories coming against Hibernian, AZ, Young Boys, RB Leipzig and Club Brugge.

However, Emery has overseen defeats in five of Villa's last eight such fixtures, to Lille, Olympiacos, Club Brugge, Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.
