Viktor Gyokeres is on his way to London to undergo his medical as he edges closer to joining Arsenal

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for the Sporting CP striker throughout the summer, and they have finally reached a full agreement for the transfer.

According to a report from The Athletic, the Gunners will pay an initial £54.8m (€63.5m) plus £8.74m (€10m) in add-ons to sign the former Coventry City striker.

The report claimed that Gyokeres was given permission to travel by Sporting, and he is expected to undergo his Arsenal medical on Saturday.

Fabrizio Romano has shared an image on X where Gyokeres is seen travelling with his agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, to London to complete his move.

Gyokeres - a lethal finisher

Despite being chased by a host of clubs this summer, Gyokeres was focused only on joining the Gunners.

The 27-year-old will reportedly sign a five-year deal at the north London club, and the Swede’s agent also waived his commission to help the switch.

Gyokeres has been one of Europe's most in-demand strikers this summer after he scored 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting last season.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion striker made a name for himself after he moved to Coventry City in 2021. His performances in the Championship earned him a move to Sporting in 2023, where he managed 97 goals and 28 assists for the Portuguese club, helping them to consecutive league titles.

Gyokeres will carry the weight of Arsenal's legacy

The striker will take the No. 14 shirt at Arsenal, the number made iconic by the club’s record goalscorer Thierry Henry

The shirt was also worn by Theo Walcott and former club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Gyokeres is a brutal finisher, but he brings more to the game than just scoring. The Swedish star clearly has the physical capabilities to thrive in the Premier League, and would represent a terrific signing for the Gunners.

This has been a huge transfer window for Arsenal, where they signed midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard from Real Sociedad and Brentford, respectively. Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and winger Noni Madueke also arrived from Chelsea, while defender Cristhian Mosquera moved from Valencia.
