Arsenal transfer news: Gabriel Martinelli latest as 'talks' held with new club after failed £38m Galatasaray offer

Arsenal have held talks with Al-Hilal over the potential sale of Gabriel Martinelli, the newest report has revealed.

The Gunners have enjoyed a positive opening weekend in the Premier League, beating Coventry City 3-0 on Friday, though focus for fans has turned back to the transfer market.

Mikel Arteta's side are yet to sign a marquee forward, but they may have to sell the likes of Martinelli before bringing an attacker through the doors.

While Galatasaray were said to have placed a bid for the Brazilian worth roughly £38m, the 25-year-old was reported to be against moving to the Turkish Super Lig.

BBC Sport have now claimed that Arsenal have held talks with Al-Hilal, with the Saudi Pro League club said to have indicated they will offer more for the winger than Galatasaray did.

Gabriel Martinelli transfer news: The right time to sell

Martinelli was left out of Arteta's squad for the Community Shield and the game against Coventry, and the head coach has seemingly made it clear that the winger has no future at the club.

The attacker only scored one Premier League goal last term, and he in fact found the back of the net just 14 times in the top flight across 2023-24 and 2024-25.

Arteta's increasingly defensive style of play has not helped the 25-year-old, but the player himself has also stagnated.

Martinelli is young enough to rediscover his form, but after three consecutive seasons of underperformance, it may be better for him to move on.

Arsenal transfer targets: Bradley Barcola hijack?

If Arsenal do sell Martinelli for a substantial sum, then they should look to sign a new winger in order to have adequate depth out wide.

While Liverpool are thought to be in discussions with Paris Saint-Germain for Bradley Barcola, some reports have suggested that they are struggling to reach an agreement with the French side.

The Gunners would benefit significantly from the arrival of Barcola, though they will find it difficult to convince the 23-year-old to join if he has given his word to Liverpool's hierarchy.

Failure to strengthen the left side of attack would likely leave Eberechi Eze and Christos Tzolis as the only options for Arteta on that flank, and it remains to be seen if they would be enough to secure another title.
