Arsenal transfer news: Eberechi Eze medical date ‘revealed’ as Mikel Arteta receives major Champions League boost

Eze’s Arsenal medical date ‘revealed’ as Arteta receives Champions League boost

Arsenal are reportedly edging close to completing the signing of Eberechi Eze after agreeing a deal worth up to £67.5m with Crystal Palace.

The 27-year-old has been tipped to leave Selhurst Park throughout this summer and looked set for a move to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week.

However, Spurs have struggled to find a swift resolution in negotiations with the Eagles and that has opened the door for North London rivals Arsenal to hijack the deal.

The Gunners have acted quickly to finalise a deal for Eze, as Kai Havertz is set for a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury, with the extent of the damage unclear at present.

Eze had a £68m release clause in his Palace contract that expired last Friday and Sky Sports News claims that Arsenal have since agreed to pay the Eagles £60m plus £7.5m in add-ons for the England international.

Eze’s Arsenal medical set for Friday as UEFA rules confirm Champions League boost

The report adds that personal terms are now close to being totally agreed and the attacker is expected to undergo a medical as soon as Friday.

Oliver Glasner revealed on Wednesday that Eze is ‘committed’ to Palace and will start their Conference League playoff first-leg tie against Fredrikstad on Thursday night, despite speculation over his future.

Sky Sports News understands that Eze wants to say his goodbyes to the Palace fans and play one final match before joining Arsenal.

Gooners will be pleased to learn that an appearance for Eze in the Conference League will not hinder his chances of representing Arsenal in this season’s Champions League.

UEFA rules state that "A player who has been fielded in the first, second or third qualifying round, or in the playoffs of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League or UEFA Conference League, is entitled to play in the Champions League, Europa League or Conference League for another club as from the League Phase."

Eze set to become Arsenal’s seventh summer signing

Eze has spent the last five years at Crystal Palace where he has established himself as a star player and a fans’ favourites, scoring 40 goals and registering 29 assists in 169 games across all competitions.

The versatile attacker finished the 2024-25 campaign as one of the hottest properties in England after scoring in six consecutive matches, including strikes in the FA Cup semi-finals and final at Wembley as he inspired Crystal Palace to their first ever major trophy.

Eze, who also won the Community Shield with Palace earlier this month, is now set for a new challenge at Arsenal as he edges towards the prime years of his career and is due to become Mikel Arteta’s seventh summer signing after Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard, Cristian Mosquera and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

It is seemingly unlikely that Eze will be signed by Arsenal in time to face Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday, but he could be available to make his Gunners debut against reigning champions Liverpool at Anfield on August 31.
