William Carvalho rules out late Arsenal switch

Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho pours cold water on the speculation linking him with a deadline-day switch to Arsenal.

Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho has ruled out a deadline-day move to Arsenal.

The 22-year-old had been linked with a switch to North London as a long-term replacement for the aging Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini.

Sporting had reportedly dropped their asking price to £23m to tempt the Gunners into acting, but the player himself says that he will stay in the Portuguese capital.

"I am under contract with Sporting and I'm a Sporting player," he told A Bola. "There is no way I can say I am going to leave. I am fine at Sporting."

Carvalho has a further four years remaining on his contract.
