Arsenal transfer news today: What's happening on August 24?

Arsenal have reportedly held talks with Al-Hilal over a possible sale of winger Gabriel Martinelli, after Galatasaray's earlier £38m offer for the Brazilian was turned down on the player's own wishes.

The Saudi Pro League side are understood to have indicated they would beat the Turkish club's valuation, and Martinelli has been left out of Mikel Arteta's squad for both the Community Shield and the opening league win over Coventry City.

His omission is being read as a clear signal that his Emirates Stadium career is winding down after three underwhelming seasons in front of goal.

Elsewhere, Arsenal's pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez appears to have hit a firm wall, with club president Enrique Cerezo insisting the Argentine has never been for sale.

That fresh update supersedes earlier suggestions that Alvarez was softening his stance and could be open to a switch to the Premier League champions.

Barcelona remain understood to be the World Cup finalist's preferred destination regardless, leaving Arsenal facing the prospect of turning to alternatives such as Victor Osimhen before the window shuts.

Should Martinelli depart for a significant fee, reports suggest Arsenal would look to reinvest in a new winger, with Liverpool target Bradley Barcola previously mentioned as a possible option if talks between the Frenchman and Anfield stall.
