How Arsenal could line up against Man City

Arsenal will be without William Saliba for Wednesday's top-of-the-table Premier League clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Frenchman's recovery from a back injury is taking longer than expected, and there are now growing fears that the problem could sideline him for the remainder of the season.

Saliba is joined on the treatment table by Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mohamed Elneny as they recover from season-ending knee injuries, but Granit Xhaka should be back from the illness which kept him out of Friday's draw with Southampton.

Unless Mikel Arteta takes a punt on the inexperienced Jakub Kiwior, Rob Holding will have the unenviable job of keeping Erling Braut Haaland quiet alongside Gabriel Magalhaes in the heart of defence.

Aaron Ramsdale will attempt to right the wrongs of last week's costly mistake against Southampton in goal, having put the ball on a plate for Carlos Alcaraz to score, while Ben White and former Man City defender Oleksandr Zinchenko line up out wide.

Assuming Xhaka can fight off his bug, the Switzerland captain will no doubt replace Fabio Vieira in the engine room alongside Thomas Partey after a disappointing showing from the Portuguese on Friday evening.

Leandro Trossard, as ever, was a livewire when he came off the bench against the Saints, but Gabriel Jesus should start against his old club as Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and captain Martin Odegaard complete the attacking quartet.

Arsenal possible starting lineup: Ramsdale; White, Holding, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Xhaka, Partey; Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli; Jesus
