Arsenal's Jack Wilshere: 'Arsene Wenger wants to do something special with us'

Jack Wilshere says that manager Arsene Wenger wants to do "something special" with his Arsenal team this season.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has claimed that manager Arsene Wenger "keeps going" because he feels like he can do "something special" with the current team.

The Frenchman has claimed that he will make a decision about his future when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Wenger, who will celebrate 20 years in charge of the Gunners next month, was urged to step down as manager by a large number of supporters last season after the club dropped out of the Premier League title race.

Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte are among the new managers to move to the top flight this summer, while Jose Mourinho has returned to take on a new challenge at Manchester United.

Wilshere recognises the calibre of coaches in the league, but has backed his manager ahead of the new season.

"For me, [Wenger's] been great over the years and he continues to be," the England international told Sky Sports News. "I know the Premier League have added more top managers but for me the boss is up there, and he shows it every year.

"Everyone keeps saying that this could be his last year but he keeps going. He really feels like he can do something special with this team so he keeps going."

Arsenal will open their league season against Liverpool at the Emirates on Sunday.
