Arsene Wenger: Mesut Ozil is "too obsessed" with assists

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has claimed that Mesut Ozil has become "too obsessed" with creating assists for his teammates.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has claimed that Mesut Ozil has become "too obsessed with making the perfect pass".

The German international started his Gunners career brightly after he became the club's most expensive player of all time at the end of the summer transfer window, but has failed to hit the heights of his early days of late.

The French boss believes that the £42m playmaker has become too focused on making assists rather than trying to score himself when well-placed in front of goal.

Wenger told The Mirror: "You want the guy who plays behind the striker to score some goals and sometimes he is too obsessed with making the perfect pass when he could take a shot at goal.

"You must say he doesn't come from a small club. He comes from Real Madrid, where the pressure is always huge as well. So he's used to it.

"He's not a guy who doesn't care. His style can sometimes look like that, but he's really the opposite character. He cares about the game, he wants to do well, he needs more support."

The Gunners host Manchester United this evening.
