Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen believes that the Gunners have the potential to beat anyone in the Premier League.

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has insisted that his side have played better than the results they have achieved in the Premier League this season suggest.

The 27-year-old has seen Arsenal suffer six defeats in the Premier League to leave them in sixth place in the league table but Vermaelen believes that they deserve to be higher than their current position.

Vermaelen told the club's official website: "You could see it from the start of the season that this team has a lot of potential.

"We have enough quality in this team to beat anybody. I think you could see that in the games we played against top teams.

"We didn't get the results we wanted, but I think in some parts of the games we played well."

Vermaelen has played 22 matches for Arsenal in the Premier League this season.
