Pat Nevin: 'Arsenal break Chelsea hoodoo with Community Shield win'

Arsenal have landed a psychological blow on Chelsea after their Community Shield win, according to Pat Nevin.

Former Chelsea player Pat Nevin has claimed that Arsenal are no longer under the thumb of Jose Mourinho after the Gunners beat the Blues in the Community Shield.

Arsene Wenger's men won the trophy thanks to an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain goal in the first half, which has handed Wenger his first ever win over Mourinho in 14 attempts.

"It was a hard fought match. It certainly meant a lot to the players, as to what it will mean over the season, time will tell, but Arsenal and Arsene Wenger have finally broken their Jose Mourinho hoodoo", Nevin told BBC Sport.

"Psychologically, you need to win trophies. For a long time Arsenal did not win enough. But now they are used to victories at Wembley. There was very little between the two teams but in the end, Arsenal won it 1-0. That's not a scoreline you would have thought of a while ago."

Arsenal have won their last six matches at Wembley Stadium.
