Matthew Lowton hails "fantastic" point

Aston Villa defender Matthew Lowton hails his side's defensive performance during their 0-0 draw with Arsenal.

Aston Villa defender Matthew Lowton has hailed his side's defensive performance during their 0-0 draw with Arsenal this afternoon.

Villa went into the match having conceded eight times in their last two games but limited the Gunners to few chances throughout the 90 minutes.

Lowton believes that the whole team deserve credit for the clean sheet and hopes to carry a similar performance into their next game.

"It's a fantastic point, even though we're at home," said Lowton.

"We've had a tough three fixtures and two defeats coming into this one, it was vital we got a point. The lads defended well and we created some great chances. The draw's fantastic and we need to keep the momentum into Tuesday night (against Reading).

"We had to reshape a bit but everyone from the top two to the back, everyone defended fantastically and that's why we got the clean sheet."

The point moves Villa out of the relegation zone, while Arsenal now sit sixth in the Premier League table.
