Former Arsenal striker John Hartson backs Theo Walcott to silence his critics.

Former Arsenal striker John Hartson has called for the club's fans to back Theo Walcott.

The 22-year-old winger scored twice in Arsenal's 5-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, and Hartson believes that the England international is "frightening".

"Arsene Wenger trusts in him. When the manager trusts and believes in you it keeps you going. On his day, Walcott can be frightening," Hartson told talkSPORT.

"His performances have dropped a bit and he needs to work on his final ball, but his pace is phenomenal."

Hartson represented Arsenal between 1995 and 1997.
